Big Little Lies Season Two has been in the works for some time but things are starting to get serious!
Casey Bloys, the programming president at HBO, has confirmed that he’s asked Liane Moriarty to “take a crack” at developing more lies for our fave Monterey mums.
Best. News. Ever!
Back in April, Liane, who’s 2014 novel was the basis of the series, told the Sydney Morning Herald, “there’s definitely places you can go.”
The show’s stars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have been very vocal about how keen they are for a second series, Liane added, “The story has to be right. So if it’s right, and if [screenwriter] David E. Kelley is happy to get the screenplay right, then I think that’ll do it.”
But don’t get too excited just yet, as it could be a while before production gets the green light, especially now that Reese is working on a new show with Jennifer Aniston.
Last week it was revealed that Reese and Jen are teaming up to star in a new HBO project that will focus on morning shows and the world of media.
But given the hectic schedule that comes with filming a TV show – and the fact that a script hasn’t even been completed yet – it could be some time before Reese is available to film Season Two of Big Little Lies.
Meanwhile, another potential spanner in the works could be Reese’s relationship with Nicole.
While the pair has been gushing non-stop about each other, behind the scenes we’re told things have actually turned frosty, now that they’re both in the race for Emmys gold.
“Reese [has always] been competitive and ambitious in her career and she hasn’t lost that,” a source told UK Grazia magazine of the pair, who are both nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in A Limited Series at this year’s Emmy Awards.
“But Nicole is enjoying a second coming in hers. At the moment all eyes are on her,” the source explained. “This is the year that she really wants to take home an Emmy.”

And she may just get her wish.
Several awards pundits have named Nicole as the firm favourite to scoop the prize ahead of Reese and their fellow nominees Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange (both from Feud), Felicity Huffman (American Crime) and Carrie Coon (Fargo).
