Whether the finale of Game of Thrones was everything you’ve ever dreamed of, or your worst possible scenario, one thing’s for certain: it’s over.
We made it through all eight gruelling seasons, and the new rules of the Seven Kingdoms is most definitely not who we expected it to be!
So, how did we finally get here? And what happened?
The end of Game of Thrones is finally here (Image: HBO).
After Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and her dragon Drogon burnt Kings Landing to the ground, Tyrion refused to continue being Daeny’s hand.
After throwing his badge away, he’s taken away and held captive where he awaits punishment. It’s here that he tries to reason with Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). Tyrion asks Jon if he would have decimated Kings Landing if he were in her position. Jon, who apparently still knows nothing, replies “I don’t know.”
Daenerys is just about to sit on the Iron Throne and fulfil her dying wish of ruling the Seven Kingdoms when Jon interrupts her. It turns out Jon does indeed know because, mid-kiss, he kills her with a single stab, rendering Westeros without a ruler.
Drogon, tortured be the demise of his mother, burns – and ultimately melts – the Iron Throne.
Just like that, the Iron Throne is no more (Image: HBO).
The newly created Committee of Lords, Ladies, and Knights who are still alive come together to decide who will rule the Seven Kingdoms.
Tyrion proposes that every new King or Queen is “not born but chosen”, which everyone is unanimously on board with.
Most fans were convinced this was the moment Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) would rule. But it’s not to be.
Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is chosen as the King, with Tyrion as his trusted hand. Sansa declares Winterfell a republic, and becomes the Queen of the North. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) says she’s packing up – she’s going “west of Westeros”.
Bran sends his honourable brother Jon packing, back to the frosty Night’s Watch. And in the most important news of all, his direwolf Ghost is waiting for him… and ready to go for a walk.
