It’s been 18 years since we said goodbye to Fran Fine and the Sheffield family as The Nanny’s final episode aired. But the show’s creator and star Fran Drescher has teased that a revival could be on the cards.
“As far as a reboot goes, I would be open to it if somebody wanted to do it — but if nobody wants to do it, then I’m currently trying to develop something else,” the 60-year-old actress explained to Closer Weekly.
The good news is, she still talks to her castmates.
“I am in touch definitely,” she said of former colleagues.
“Renée Taylor (Sylvia Fine) is a good friend of mine, Charlie [Shaughnessy] (Maxwell Sheffield) is a good friend of mine. Recently I reconnected with Nicholle Tom (Maggie Sheffield), and periodically I speak to everyone, but I’m very good friends with Charlie and Renée, for sure,” she said.
Fran might need to convince Charles to take part though. The actor shared his thoughts on a reboot earlier this year.
“There’s been talk about a stage musical. There’s been talk about a revival series. There’s been talk about a one-off limited show, like a Gilmore Girls-type thing,” he told Radar Online.
“The whole concept of The Nanny is a nanny to these three kids. When those three kids are all grown up, there is no need for a nanny,” he continued.
“Other than getting a bunch of the same actors 20 years later and 20 years older together again, I don’t know how it would work.”
Maybe he’s had a change of heart?
