Unless you’ve been living under a rock or mound of pillows (given the start to 2021, we wouldn’t blame you) you’ve probably seen talk of the Britney Spears documentary, Framing Britney Spears, all over your news feeds.

The film, which has been produced by The New York Times, comes off the back of the wild #FreeBritney movement that made headlines last year.

The situation is severely complex but stems from the conservatorship Britney has been placed under.

Fans have been concerned for the 90s star’s welfare.

A conservatorship is a legal concept that sees the appointment of a guardian to manage the financial affairs and/or daily life of another when they are deemed mentally and physically incapable.

Usually this is done for the elderly, not international pop stars.

Britney has been under conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears for a number of years.

Matters came to a head recently thanks to a group of fans called the #FreeBritney community who believe the pop star is being held under the agreement unfairly.

Late last year Britney tried to have the conservatorship overruled by a judge but she ultimately lost her court battle.

Britney’s rise to fame was exponential.

During the proceedings Britney revealed she was “afraid” of her father, who had control of her entire estate and career decisions.

This is where the documentary comes in, covering not only the #FreeBritney movement but her entire rise to fame and subsequent downfall (remember when she snapped and shaved her head?) thanks to horrendous hounding by media and paparazzi.

Fans and celebrities alike have been in a frenzy over the gripping documentary and it’s easy to see why.

Naturally, you’re probably asking how you yourself can tune in.

Thankfully, after high demand, the doco is set to air in Australia on Tuesday, March 2, at 9.00pm on Nine and 9Now.

Mark your calendars, set your reminder pop ups, invite your pals around whatever you’ve got to do to make sure you don’t miss it!
