Dr Susan Carland – academic, author and wife to The Project host Waleed Aly – has been announced as the host of a new quiz show on SBS.
Susan is set to host a new six-part series called Child Genius, which consists of quiz and documentary segments.
The show will see young Australian children facing off in a studio contest, testing their abilities in maths, general knowledge, memory and language.
“The series features participants and their families from all over Australia,” SBS says in a statement.
“And provides unique insight into the joys — and challenges — of parenting a gifted child.”
The accomplished star shared the news on Instagram overnight, telling her followers she was “so thrilled to finally be able to tell you I’m hosting a new TV show!
“No, I’m not taking over from Lee Lin Chin,” she joked, as Lee Lin announced her departure from the network after 30 years overnight.
“I’m hosting Child Genius, a show about really smart kids! These kids will astound you….and make you feel pretty dopey. I did. Repeatedly. Airs in November!”
Susan shared two photos in her post, one with SBS CEO Michael Ebeid, and the other on the set of the new series.
Susan has previously appeared on several TV shows, including The Project, where she has appeared alongside her husband Waleed.
She was also a founding member and presenter of the SBS comedy talk show Salam Cafe.
As presenter of Child Genius, Susan could very well end up nominated against her husband for ‘Most Popular Presenter’ at the 2019 TV WEEK Logie Awards. Who knows? She may even score a Gold Logie Award of her own to take home.
Child Genius is set to air in November on SBS.
