Donald Glover’s critically acclaimed series Atlanta has been renewed for a third season by FX.

Somewhere between creating the ground-breaking track This Is America, voicing Simba in Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, and starring in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the immensely talented actor found the time to secure another season for his hit show.

Donald created Atlanta in 2015, and stars as the series’ lead character Earnest “Earn” Marks.

Atlanta follows cousins Earn and Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) as they navigate the Atlanta hip-hop scene in a bid to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

The critically acclaimed series has picked up a stack of well-deserved awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Critics’ Choice Television Award and Peabody Award.

“Atlanta is phenomenal — achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” says co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions Nick Grad, of the renewal.

“With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”

Atlanta has been praised for its poignant story-lines and remarkable characters.

The show debuted its first season in September 2016, and aired its second season – Atlanta Robbin’ Season – in March 2018. It’s unknown if the third season will also feature a title change, though we do know it’s due to air in 2019.

Atlanta airs on SBS in Australia, with season one and two currently available to stream on SBS On Demand.
