In June, it was announced that Wayward Sisters, which would focus on Supernatural sheriffs Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster), will be making its debut in 2018. Jody and Donna, who are training late Jimmy Novak’s (Castiel’s vessel) daughter Claire (Kathryn Love Newton), have all been orphaned by a supernatural tragedy, so the three team up to fight some monsters.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will have a similar feel to Supernatural, which followed Winchester brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), but rather than being on the road every episode, Wayward Sisters will be set in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The show will introduce a psychic called Patience (Clark Backo), along with some other fresh faces. Executive producer Andrew Dabb says about the character: “Everyone else is like, ‘Sometimes we do autopsies of monsters on the dinner table.’ (Patience is) like, ‘That’s insane! That’s not a thing people do.’ She’s there to offer a little bit of perspective.”

Two more regular characters we’ll see is Alex (Katherine Ramdeen), who is almost like a daughter to Jody, and Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip), who has the ability to walk between worlds in her dreams.

“Kaia has been on her own for a long time,” Dabb explains. “She’s not sure who she can trust but she starts to form certain bonds and relationships that make it clear that this is the place she needs to be.”

Kathryn says Wayward Sisters has a “little more of a fantasy vibe” than its predecessor, but it still has the “core Supernatural dynamic”.

EP Robert Berens explains that the show’s characters have more of a support network than what Sam and Dean have.

“What is possible if you have more than just a sibling relationship to guide you through this process?” Berens poses. “Could it be different? Could it be less psychologically and physically damaging than what we’ve seen Sam and Dean go through? That’s a really core question of the show.”

Oh, and the reason the Winchester boys don’t turn up and help the ladies fight the baddies? Kim says the reason is explained early on.

“It’s made very clear why this is happening without Sam and Dean, although there’s a beautiful opportunity for them to come visit,” she says.

We can’t wait!
