It’s one of the longest running soaps of all time, with a catchphrase most people would recognise anywhere: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

Set in the fictional Midwestern town of Salem, Days Of Our Lives has followed the lives and loves of countless characters since 1965.

Despite its lengthy history and die-hard fan-base, the series appears set to be cancelled as TV Line reports the entire cast have been released from their contracts ahead of Season 56.

According to the publication, the soap is set to go on an indefinite hiatus at month’s end.

An insider reportedly told them that the show will have enough episodes to last through to Summer 2020, as the cast shoots eight months in advance. If the series is renewed, production will resume in March with the actors on new contracts.

“If Days gets picked up, [Corday] can offer the actors new contacts at a reduced rate and with a ‘take-it-or-leave’ it attitude,” the source says.

“Worst case scenario, they lose half their cast. Best case scenario [for Corday], everyone agrees to return at a lower salary.”

Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn are two of DOOL’s longest-running stars.
