Samuel Johnson took to the Love Your Sister Facebook page last night to confirm that his sister Connie Johnson has been admitted to hospice.
The actor posted a picture of a serene looking lake which he said was Connie’s view.
Sam described his sister’s current reality with the following caption:
“Con’s needed a lot of quiet time lately to try and comprehend the total headf*ckery that ‘actively dying’ brings.
No phones, no social media – all too overwhelming right now. She just rang from the hospice (her view pictured) and admitted that this is the most difficult thing she’s ever had to face, but in true Connie style she’s been colouring in to keep the nasty thoughts at bay! She said to tell you that there’s life in the old dog yet.
She’s as comfortable as can be and is being cared for superbly.
Xsam”
Earlier this year, Connie announced that she was stopping cancer treatment because her body simply couldn’t take any more chemotherapy.
“I thought maybe it was time to consider stopping treatment,” she tells the Canberra Times.
“So we called a family meeting. And basically, it wasn’t my choice. I can’t have any more chemo medically. So that’s a game-changer.”
Connie made one of her last public appearances at the Love Your Sister Big Heart Project in May this year, when Connie and Samuel attempted to fill a giant love heart with five cent coins, all in the name of cancer research.
The fundraiser was a massive success and it raised over $2 million thanks to the incredible efforts of the Love Your Sister team and many generous donations. Since then Connie has slowly moved out of the public eye but Sam has kept everyone updated, regularly posting on the Love Your Sister Facebook page.
The mother-of-two made her final public appearance in late June at a public speaking engagement at Melbourne University.
The following day Samuel posted a loving tribute to his sister on the Love Your Sister Instagram.
