It’s been 15 years since the science-fiction series Firefly premiered!
Although the show was short-lived, it made a big impact and gained a cult following.
The series also helped to bring actors like Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres into the public eye.
To celebrate the 15th anniversary, we look back at the celebs who got their start in Firefly.
1. Nathan Fillion

Canadian-American actor Nathan Fillion landed his role in Firefly in 2002, a year before his turn as Caleb in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Nathan starred as Captain Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds for the 14-episode run of the series.
Nathan alongside his Castle co-star Stana Katic.
Nathan is now best known for his series Castle, where he played the main character Richard Castle from 2009-2016.
2. Gina Torres
You might recognise Gina for her role in Suits, where she played Jessica Pearson alongside Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams.
But, in 2002 Gina appeared in Firefly as Zoe Washburne, the First Officer and right hand of Captain Mal Reynolds.

Gina has gone on to have an extremely successful career and has starred in two Matrix movies as well as the 24 series, Justice League Unlimited and Alias, just to name a few.
3. Morena Baccarin
Science fiction series Firefly was Morena Baccarin’s first foray into TV!
The actress played Inara Serra in the series, a role which she reprised in the 2005 film Serenity.

Morena went on to star in the series Homeland as Jessica Brody.
Since 2013, Morena has also appeared in Gotham, where she met her now husband, The O.C actor Ben McKenzie.
4. Alan Tudyk
He’s now a well-known voice actor, but Alan Tudyk got his start in Firefly as Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne.
Alan’s character Hei Hei the rooster in Moana.
The actor has had a successful career in voicing animated characters for movies and has appeared in films such as Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph and Moana, where he voiced the character Hei Hei.
5. Zac Efron
You thought that Zac Efron got his start in the High School Musical movies? Wrong!
The actor’s first ever on-screen appearance was in Firefly.
The heartthrob went on to star in a few more series, including Summerland, before he hit the big time in the first Disney High School Musical film in 2006.
6. Christina Hendricks
She is best known for her role as Joan Holloway in Mad Men, but Christina Hendricks did appear in Firefly many years before she landed the role as the secretary at Sterling Cooper.

The actress played the role of Saffron in Firefly, a character who used her wiles to seduce Captain Mal.
