The ’90s are well and truly making their way back onto our televisions with so many great revivals and reboots. But there’s one character we’re exceptionally excited to see return – Murphy Brown.
Played by Candice Bergen, Murphy Brown was the feminist powerhouse we all needed in our lives and we can’t wait to see her take on today’s issues.
Candice recently shared an image via Instagram of the cast Nik Dodani (Pat), Faith Ford (Corky Sherwood Forest), Joe Regalbuto (Frank Fontana) and Grant Shaud (Miles Silverberg) and creator Diane English.
And captioned her post: “MURPHY BROWN…together again. Coming to your neighbourhood TV in the fall. Just in time…”
According to TVLine, newcomer Nik Dodani is set to play the director of social media for the news program while Jake McDorman will also join the show as Murphy’s son, Avery, who is following in his mother’s footsteps.
The 71-year-old will reprise her lead role as an investigative journalist at the FYI network. Three decades on, she will now be in a world that revolves around social media and the internet as well as a very different political and social climate.
Murphy Brown aired on CBS for 10 seasons from 1988-1998 and won Candice multiple Emmy’s for her role. And while the beloved show is celebrating its 30th anniversary we expect its well-known political satire and reflection of societal issues will be far from out-dated as it’s revived.
So well-known and reflective of politics was Murphy Brown that the show was even made mention of in the 1992 presidential campaign for Dan Quayle.
We’re sure it will receive just as much notoriety when it returns.
