Heartbreaking news for Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans, as Fox announces the show has been cancelled after five seasons.
The cult comedy series, which revolves around a group of detectives in a Brooklyn police precinct, was led by SNL alumnus Andy Samberg and starred an ensemble cast of Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Chelsea Peretti, Joel McKinnon Miller and Dirk Blocker.
The series was created by Michael Shur and Dan Goor, who worked together on Parks and Recreation, and have an impressive list of accolades for their work in comedy series.
The series won several Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Creative Arts Emmy award. It was also the the highest-rated live-action comedy series on Fox this season, but despite all their success, B99 was still axed by the network in an unexpected move.
Fans are calling for the series to be renewed, using the hashtag ‘#RenewB99’ on Twitter.
The cast have been mourning the loss of their beloved series on social media today, sharing group photos and heart-warming posts about their time working together.
Joe, who plays Detective Charles Boyle, shared a series of photos of his cast-mates on Instagram.
“March 2013. When it all began,” he wrote. “My lovely lovely friends. Take nothing for granted. Look around at the love. Be thankful. It all goes by so fast, kids.”
He also shared a post dedicated to lovable idiots Hitchcock and Scully (played by Dirk and Joel).
“Dirk & Joel. There from the beginning,” he said of the pair.
Stephanie (Detective Rosa Diaz) shared a photo of herself and Chelsea (Gina Linetti) and Melissa (Sergeant Amy Santiago) hugging during a scene.
“Mood,” she simply wrote, alongside a love-heart emoji.
Melissa took to Twitter to thank her fans for their support.
“I am still processing… don’t have all the words.. but.. These last 5 years have been incredible,” she tweeted. “Thank you for all your love and support. We have the best fans. It’s been a huge honor to play Amy and be a part of this tremendous ensemble. NINE NINE!”
We think Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda summed up our feelings best, as he tweeted in all-capitals: “Renew Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I only watch like 4 things. This is one of the things. #RenewB99.”
If you need us, we’ll be over here drowning our sorrows by watching re-runs.
