Biggest Loser contestant Jodie reveals: 'My size was killing me'

Being eliminated from the weight-loss show is nothing compared to what she’s already been through.

Entering The Biggest Loser: Families house at almost 107kg, Jodie, 43, struggled with breathlessness and her life-threatening colon condition. Now, at home with her family, she insists being eliminated from the show won’t stop her charging towards a clean bill of health.

“I’ve finally realised you can’t put a price on life,” Jodie says. “I’d lost and gained so much weight before the show, I ended up with a twisted bowel. With all the yoyo dieting, the bowel wrapped around itself. My stomach was so bloated I looked pregnant.”

She underwent keyhole surgery to treat the painful condition and was confident she was recovering after an uneventful week of convalescing at home with her husband, Alfred, and two sons, Kurtis, 13, and Jordan, 10.

Then a routine trip to the bathroom turned terrifying. Jodie started suddenly bleeding heavily from the surgery site. “Blood started running out of me like a hose,” she recalls. “I thought, ‘I’m going to die. There is no way I can stop this bleeding’.”
