The Living Room host Barry Du Bois has opened up about his cancer treatment and progress in an emotional appearance on WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda show.

Barry made the announcement in October on the popular lifestyle show that his cancer had returned. The plasmacytoma myeloma originally found in his neck had resurfaced and was ‘reasonably aggressive.’

The 57-year-old told viewers that he would undergo extensive chemotherapy and stem cell treatment while awaiting a transplant.

While on radio with fellow Living Room host, Amanda Keller, Barry opened up about his progress, revealing he was feeling “pretty good” and believes he is responding to treatment better than doctors hoped.

“I’ve had a rough week there’s no doubt about that,” Barry revealed. “It’s been a struggle but overall but I feel pretty good.”

“I feel like my progress is more advanced than where the doctor’s want it, which I’m excited about. I’ve said from the outset, you know, I was going to do everything possible to make this the best journey it can be and the results of that are starting to pay-off, so I’m excited.”

Amanda also touched on Barry’s treatment, revealing he was undergoing a ‘double dose’ of chemo this week after four previous rounds earlier in the year.

The radio chat came ahead of a special segment on The Living Room about cancer research presented by Amanda, featuring Barry. Understandably overwhelmed, Amanda welled up before telling her fellow host and friend: “I just miss you, I just miss you.”

When exactly Barry may return to the show is still uncertain. “It might be a month or so yet,” he revealed. “I am weak, there’s no doubt about it. But still stronger than the average bloke they reckon.”

Barry is touched by the support of those around him, holding back tears as he said, “It’s great to have the support that I’ve got with you guys and all our Living Room extended family. All the nurses, all the doctors [say] the positive attitude that you can carry into something like this, and the honest support [I receive], will help me fight the fight.”
