Aussie fans have been calling for it. Now, former Packed To The Rafters cast member Angus McLaren is willing to make our dreams come true.
“Never say never!” the 29-year-old, who played Nathan Rafter on the popular drama, tells TV WEEK of a possible reboot.
“If everyone was interested and it was a compelling story, then why not?”
Angus says the question has “come up a couple of times” since the show ended in 2013. He adds that the on-screen family – which includes Jessica Marais, Erik Thomson, Rebecca Gibney and Hugh Sheridan – remain in contact.
“It can be hard to catch up,” Angus says. “But I’d love to see everyone soon.”
The show certainly left the door open for a possible return. While the ending wrapped up the characters’ storylines neatly, there’s still the potential to revisit the Rafters down the track.
Also spinning the rumour mill is the show’s other stars. Rebecca Gibney reveals she would happily reprise her role as Rafter’s matriarch, Julie.
“I never say never!” she enthuses, echoing the words of her former co-star.
“[But] the hard thing is getting everybody back together, because everyone has gone on to be hugely successful.
“If by chance all of them get a break together, I would be very happy to do a reunion.”
Rebecca is currently writing, producing and starring in the third season of Aussie drama, Wanted, so a Rafters return would have to come further down the track.
Meanwhile, apart from an upcoming stint on Home And Away, Angus is also working on web series 600 Bottles Of Wine, which is set to become a TV series later in the year.
“We actually film [Home and Away] in the same corridors as Rafters – we were in the studios next door,” he adds. “It was very nostalgic.”
And he says Rafters will always hold a special place in his heart.
“There hasn’t been anything in Australian TV history that exploded quite like that,” Angus says.
“I’m incredibly grateful for that whole experience.”
