The 2023 AFL Womens league set to return on September 1. Plus, the all-star commentary team has just been released!
If you thought you saw the last of premiership heroes Daisy Pearce and Libby Birch after they retired… you would be wrong as they’re joining Channel Seven’s Australian Football League Women’s Competition team.
Plus all your favourite callers and experts are back for the 2023 season.
In a full-circle moment, Daisy will commentate on the opening clash between her former team Melbourne against Collingwood.
Joining her former teammates one last time on the field to present the 2022 AFLW premiership flag.
Daisy is not only a football star and mother of twins, but she is also returning to her work as a midwife!
She exclusively told us in 2018, “I am lucky that I am very passionate about both football and midwifery because it makes the sacrifices you have to make in order to fit it all in worth it.”
Former Melbourne teammate Libby Birch will also be joining the AFLW team. In fact, Libby only became a football star because of her close friend Daisy.
Picking up a football for the first time when she was 18 with Pearce and never looked back.
Even though she had never played the game before, Libby has been “named in multiple All-Australian teams, playing a pivotal role in two premiership teams and being the first Victorian Player to reach 50 games in AFLW history,” on the Libby Birch website.
Not only will there be new football stars, but also famous 7 News sports experts including Anna Hay, Mark Soderstrom, and Laura Spurway to round out the team.
And how could we forget your favourite sports commentators’ coming back for the AFLW 2023 season, including Jason Bennett and Nigel Carmody for the boys.
And Natalie Edwards, Melissa Hickey, Abbey Holmes, Sam Lane, Kate McCarthy, Alister Nicholson, Sarah Olle, plus Jo Wotton for the girls!
Can’t wait until September 1st? Tune into Seven on Thursday night from 8.30pm AEST when Daisy Pearce joins The Front Bar with Andy Maher, Mick Molly, and Sam Pang.
Plus, legendary ruckman Nic Naitanui will also be joining after his 213-game retirement with the West Coast Eagles!
Tune in to Channel 7, 7mate, and 7plus at 7pm on September 1st to watch AFLW Melbourne vs. Collingwood fight it out at Ikon Park.
