It’s finally over for Logie-winning drama series, A Place To Call Home, with Foxtel announcing season six will be its last.
A rocky start on Channel Seven saw the period piece’s abrupt cancellation after just two seasons before it was offered a lifeline by the pay TV network.
But unlike its first axing, this ending will be entirely intentional – something long-time fans will appreciate.
“Season six truly completes my vision for the series,” series creator, Bevan Lee says in a press release.
“I promise to bring the show to its finale on a wave of tears, laughter and most importantly, closure.”
The cast of A Place To Call Home will return for its sixth and last season.
Foxtel’s executive director of television, Brian Walsh says the focus is on giving fans a satisfying ending.
“It was imperative for us that the series retain its integrity and that we would bring the series to a close at its natural story point and that is what everyone who loves the show can expect,” he says.
“The series will be long remembered for its captivating narrative, outstanding performances and world-class production values.”
The series will reunite key players, including Marta Dusseldorp, Noni Hazlehurst and Brett Climo, for one last hurrah with ten episodes collectively titled, The Final Chapter.
David Berry, who plays James Bligh, and has since gone on to star in Outlander, will also return.
“By now, we all know this is going to be the last season of @aptch and I’m proud to say that James will return in season 6 to be a part of this final chapter,” he reveals on Instagram.
“This show and its fans have given me so much over the years.”
Filming kicked off yesterday, but producers have so far kept details of the upcoming season tightly under wraps. They have revealed only that we’ll see the beloved characters tackle a new decade in 1960.
Reacting to news of the new season, Noni, who plays the Bligh family matriarch, says the experience has been a “joy”.
“I just love this character and I love the show and the people who work on it – it’s been an absolute joy,” she says.
Season six of A Place To Call Home is slated for an August 2018 release on Foxtel’s Showcase channel.
