Travel Guides is in for a shake-up this season as new guides Karly and Bri take over the reins from sisters Stack and Mel. And if you think they look familiar, you would be right.
The pair starred together on Beauty And The Geek in 2022 and have been inseparable ever since. Now, they tell Woman’s Day why they can’t wait to travel the globe…
You met on Beauty And The Geek. What was that experience like?
Karly: Bri and I are two very big personalities and we were immediately drawn to each other and bounced off each other. From that moment, we have not left each other’s sides.
Bri: We were roommates on the show, so we had no choice but to be friends. We were like the love story from Beauty And The Geek… we walked out best of friends.
Do you still keep in touch with your respective geeks?
Both: Yes, of course!
Karly: We have a phone call probably once a month with them and chat.
You both have TV experience, but how is Travel Guides Different?
Karly: They are two completely different shows. Having cameras in our faces 24/7 is the same and getting miked up every day is the same, but that’s about it. We went from filming something for eight weeks to filming for six months.
Bri: Plus all the flights and different hotels every week, it was a bit of a rude shock.
What do you think you’ll both bring to the series?
Bri: We bring a different dynamic to the show, and I think people will be pleasantly surprised by us. We might look a certain way on the outside – we like to dress up and look nice – but we also give everything a crack. We are tomboys at heart.
You say you’ll try everything, but is there anything that’s a dealbreaker for you on the show?
Karly: I would go shark diving, I would eat a bull’s testicle, but I’m really afraid of going in a helicopter. I am concerned for our lives when I’m in a helicopter. I don’t know if it’s because I watched too many action movies.
Bri: I hate snakes, they are not my vibe, but we did everything else – we climbed up things, jumped off things, we did everything. We might be crying and carrying on beforehand, but we will do it.
Your first trip on the show is to India. Was that an eye-opening experience for you?
Karly: Before we started filming, the producers asked us about our dream destinations, and ever since I was a teenager I’ve wanted to go to India, so it was amazing. You don’t leave the country the same person.
Bri: I did not have high expectations, but to see what we saw was breathtaking. You do leave a different person spiritually and I think we both needed that in our lives.
Now that you’re seasoned travellers, what is one item you can’t go without when travelling?
Karly: Can I be cheeky and say my skincare bag? It’s one item with lots of smaller items inside but I just cannot live without it.
Bri: For me, it’s my makeup because if I run past a hot guy, I’m single and I want to look my best. You never know who you might meet.
Speaking of hot blokes, do you get any downtime to pursue a romance while filming the series?
Karly: No, we’re too busy, but it doesn’t mean we’re not looking. If we go to get a gelato or bottle of water, and someone walks past, we notice. [Laughs]
Bri: We definitely saw hotties in all the countries we visited!
It certainly sounds like you had a blast. Will you return for another season?
Karly: If they want us back, we are definitely down. You will have to wait and see…
