WHAT IS THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION OF TIPPING POINT?

The Australian version of Tipping Point is the exact same its UK counterpart, except it’s filmed in Australia. Oh and there’s also a BIG twist in the game’s Round Two. You’ll have to keep reading to find out what it is.

Hosted by Todd Woodbridge (more on him later too), the show combines elements of general knowledge trivia with the nostalgic thrill of an arcade coin pusher machine.

The result? An edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting experience.

How it works:

Three contestants: The show kicks off three hopefuls. Each are vying for the chance to dominate the coin machine.

Four question rounds: Contestants answer multiple-choice questions to earn valuable ‘counters’, which look like flat coins. They’re worth $100 each.

One $20k jackpot: Correct answers earn them the opportunity to drop these counters in the colossal coin pusher machine. The goal is to nudge other counters off the edge and into the cash zone. And advance to the final round for a chance to take home $20,000!

The four high-stakes rounds:

  • Round one: It’s a battle of the brains as contestants answer multiple-choice questions to gain counters.
  • Round two: The stakes get higher. Round two is called Quickfire, and contestants have 30 seconds to answer questions correctly for a counter. The contestant with the least amount of money at the end of this round gets eliminated.
  • Round three: The remaining two contestants go head-to-head with two questions each. A correct answer earns a counter, but an incorrect answer means forfeiting a counter to your opponent. The person with the most money in the bank moves on.
  • Round four: With only one contestant left, all that’s standing in the way is five questions and Todd’s secret weapon: his Jackpot Temptation – the big twist in the Australian version!

Jackpot Temptation comes into play if the contestant fails to knock the Jackpot counter over the ledge and win the $20 grand. Todd’s offer varies – could it be extra counters, more money, a holiday or a car?

Whatever it is, his job is to take contestants to their tipping point so it has to be good. Will they risk it all for another shot (or two, three or four!) at the jackpot or play it safe and keep their winnings?

The stakes are high, and the temptation is even higher. It’s no wonder Tipping Point is fast becoming Australia’s newest obsession!

At this point, you might be wondering how you can get a spot on the family-friendly game show.

First things first, Tipping Point is filmed in Melbourne, so being able to get there is a must. Beyond that, the show has an application process to suss out whether or not you’d be a good fit.

Simply, show producers want to know three things:

  1. You have a fun, positive personality
  2. You have a decent level of general knowledge
  3. You are older than 18

If that’s you (or you think it is), then head here to fill out an application. The trick is to fill it out with as much info as possible, detailing what makes you unique.

Just like trying to secure a job interview, it’s important your application stands out. So get creative!

Send in a short video along with your application, explaining why you’re the perfect fit. Make it funny, memorable and entertaining. Include some fun photos of you being you. All of this is sure to give you a leg up. However, it’s not compulsory.

Australians probably know this sporting legend well. Todd Woodbridge is a former pro tennis player and current sports broadcaster for Nine.

And he’s probably best known for his successful doubles partnerships with Mark Woodforde (‘The Woodies) and later Jonas Björkman – he took home 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles. That’s nine Wimbledons, three US Opens, three Australian Opens and one French Open.

But that’s not all. He’s also won another six Grand Slam mixed double titles. And he’s an Olympics gold medalist as well as host of Postcards, another Melbourne-based show.

Todd clearly likes to stay busy and in all of the action, which makes him a perfect fit to ‘serve up’ all the edge-of-your-seat drama in Tipping Point.
