Could the finale of this season of Lego Masters also be the end of Hamish Blake’s reign as Nine’s golden boy on the much-loved, family-friendly ratings hit?
According to an industry insider, the network is getting set for a huge shake-up in their primetime line-up for 2025, with rumours swirling they’ve bought up the Australian rights to US quiz show The Floor, hosted by Hollywood’s Rob Lowe.
“Nine are playing their cards close, but they see Hamish as the perfect fit to host the Aussie version, which could mean he would step away from Lego Masters,” the insider tells Woman’s Day.
“Sophie Monk is in prime position to front Lego – they used her a lot more this year and many believe it was a ploy to see how she would go without Hamish driving it.
“Hamish has made it clear that if they want him to host The Floor he will not consider taking on two big shows – he wouldn’t do that to his young family,” explains the insider of the 42-year-old father-of-two.
“Nine would rather take the risk and put Sophie on Lego, and throw all their resources at making The Floor work with Hamish, who Nine knows is a safe set of hands.”
Fans of the show have also started to speculate that Sophie, 44, could be set for a bigger role in the next season, after the former Bachelorette star has won over viewers with her relatable and fun approach to the show.
“She’s being set up as the next host,” one fan theorised, while another responded, “She’s a typical Australian and everyone can relate to her. I love her!”
But what Nine didn’t bargain on is another current network star also throwing his hat in the ring for The Floor hosting gig.
Our insider reveals Karl Stefanovic has made no secret he wants his own show after his This Time Next Year series was axed in 2019 – and the 49-year-old believes The Floor is perfect for him!
“That puts Nine in an awkward spot because they overlooked Karl for ACA or Ally [Langdon] and he has had to remind management yet again that he doesn’t want to be on breakfast TV forever,” says the insider.
“It’s going to be interesting to see which of their two highest paid talents – Hamish or Karl – ends up on The Floor – and what that will mean for Sophie.” Nine hasn’t commented on the speculation.
