In the premiere episode of The Block where the contestants were tasked with the challenge of creating a kid’s bedroom in the dilapidated Gatwick Hotel, tensions were at an all-time high.
Villains Sara and Hayden saw themselves locked inside their bedroom moments before host Scott Cam declared ‘tools down’ before they attempted to take fellow contestants and netball besties Carla and Bianca’s door.
It appeared that was all lost for the pair, yet they remained extremely confident. ‘We nailed it,’ insisted Sara.
They spent the highest amount out of the contestants splashing out over $10,000 on their room, but their investment appeared worthwhile, with the pair winning the challenge overall scoring 25 ½ out of 30.
Judge Shaynna loved the wall niche and circus style bedhead, while Neale thought the room had a “really lovely feel about it.”
Darren loved the rooms layout. The finish of the skirting boards and bad paint work near the desk, were Hayden and Sara’s only faults in the judge’s eyes.
Sara was delighted with the feedback shouting, “best team on The Block,” when Scott announced the win.
As winners of the challenge, they got the first pick of the five apartments.
The pair shocked their fellow Blockheads, picking apartment three located on the second floor.
Sara and Hayden explained their choice, remarking that apartment three is the best one of the original building, adding that they liked the concrete roof above as it blocks noise from your neighbours.
Taking out the second spot with a score of 24 1/2 was Kerrie and Spence.
In yet another shock move, they also decided to bypass the penthouse and select apartment 1 – with some believing it will be the hardest apartment to sell.
Apartment 1 has the safe and they are banking a lot on its mystery contents.
Coming in third on 22 points wass Bianca and Carla, they chose apartment no 5 – the north facing penthouse with bay and city views. The girls can’t believe their luck, they’re delighted with their apartment choice.
Norm and Jess come 4th with a score of 20 out of 30. They’re ecstatic and just like the girls, can’t believe their luck.
They chose the remaining penthouse – apartment 4, which also has city views. To come fourth and walk away with a penthouse, these Aussie battlers are over the moon.
Leaving Courtney and Hans with apartment 2, after coming 5th the couple have still scored well securing the largest apartment in the Block.
Scotty reminds the teams – the winner of this challenge, will be getting their budget back. In a new twist they will have to take if from one of their neighbours. Winners Hayden and Sara spent $10776, and have till 9am the following morning to decide which team they’ll take it back from.
They conspire with Kerrie and Spence as the couple reveal that they have over $150,000 in vouchers from the safe.
