The Block is under fire after more than one team have complained about ‘unfair’ treatment while on the show.
During the most recent episode, the complaints led to a rare apology which host Scotty Cam giving contestants Omar and Oz an apology on the show’s behalf.
“On a personal note, I want to apologise to Omar and Oz on behalf of The Block. What with the rain we’ve had over the last month, we were unable to finish your shed – and therefore, you were unable to finish your room. So for that, we say sorry,” he told them.
Oz and Omar were furious when they were told couldn’t present a finished work-from-home space with the rest of the contestants, despite their incompletion being no fault of their own.
The productions building team arrived to Oz and Omar last – which they claimed happened repeatedly throughout the season – and ran out of time to complete the roof on their shed due to bad weather.
“We’re the only contestants on The Block that doesn’t have a roof on their shed at the moment,” said Omar. “It does feel like we haven’t had the right end of the deal on this Block at all.”
“We’re still trying to produce rooms, and it’s finally come to a stage where we’re being told ‘You’re not going to get the room [finished]. It’s not fair, that’s for sure.”
In response, foremen Keith and Dan both apologised to them and suggested Oz and Omar’s brothers – who were visiting on-site – could help them paint the area. The offer was a rare rule-bending allowance to compensate their disadvantage.
However, Omar and Oz turned down the offer and said that it would only lead to further complaints from their other team mates who haven’t been given the same treatment.
Despite their evident disadvantage, Oz and Omar still came third in the competition.
“We ended up coming third with an unfinished room!!” the team posted on Instagram.
“Just imagine the potential it had if we were on the same exact playing field as the rest!! We aren’t one to complain and sook so it is what it is! The show must go on. One more week to go..”
