When Blockhead Sarah-Jane arrived to greet new contestants Rachel and Ryan, she made an immediate impact that was dramatic.

Talking fast and not holding back on her opinions, Sarah-Jane swept into house two and introduced herself to the couple, who replaced overwhelmed social media influencers Elle and Joel, leaving Rachel and Ryan even more confused than they already were!

“It definitely wasn’t BFFs at first sight,” Rachel, 37, tells TV WEEK. “When I first met SJ I was very unsure what had just happened in the three minutes she cycloned into our house.

“But after about our third or fourth conversation I thought: ‘Oh I like her, we are going to have fun!’ and the rest is history!”

From that bumpy start, the pair quickly became Block besties, pairing up for shopping trips, gossiping about their husbands and sharing the moments only other contestants could understand.

“I could call my Mum and say: ‘Oh this is so hard!’ and she would try, but she didn’t really understand,” Sarah-Jane, 31, says. “But Rachel would be in the same position and could totally relate, plus it helped she was right next door, so I could just pop over and talk.”

The pair also found they shared the same sense of humour, turning even the toughest Block moments into fun. “Oh yes,” Sarah-Jane adds. “Our sense of humour and our banter definitely made our friendship grow.”

Even after filming for the TV series finished, the pair have stayed in touch, talking two or three times a day on the phone, Sarah-Jane says, and catching up every couple of weeks when they’re in the same city. “We went out together for my birthday,” Rachel says.

“And it was just the same as ever. Sarah-Jane just gets me, and meeting her has been one of the best things about The Block!”
