The Block has featured its first ever female tradie – and she’s ready to change people’s expectations of women in the building industry.
The reality television show contestant Jenny is a proud apprentice chippy and is shattering female stereotypes.
In an interview on the Today show with hosts Sylvia Jefferies and Richard Wilkins, Jenny explains her desire to lead by example.
“I think it is so cool to be the first ever tradie lady on The Block and I hope there is many more to come after me,” she said.
“It has been awesome, I have loved it.”
“On The Block there is just so much happening. I think this week is pretty full on because it is our first guest bedroom. I am out shopping but I am also trying to be on the tools as well. It is just mixing it up.”
“Once I get back from the shops I am putting the tool belt on straight away. That was hard to get used to at first but it got pretty easy after a while.”
Fiancée and builder Dylan gave some words of encouragement regarding Jenny’s dedication on a work site.
“Super proud of Jenny. As I say, she goes harder than any other dude I have seen work on site,” he said on the Today show.
“She is a quick learner. Not afraid to give anything a go so I am very proud of Jen.”
The couple addressed the rising tension between them and Tom and Sarah-Jane, conceding the competitiveness is likely to continue given their similar design style. I
In a TV WEEK exclusive, Sarah-Jane and Tom revealed their secret weapon, The Block legend and real estate agent David Wood could help them win the competition after selling more houses than anyone else.
“I think everyone is there to win, deep down,” Tom said. “So everyone wants the best chance at auction.”
“We think David could be that best chance for us, so we’re taking it!” Sarah-Jane added.
