In a shock auction result, the winner made just $4000 over reserve, the second placegetter earned a tiny $76 and the other two homes didn’t sell, passed in under their reserve.

It was a moment the Australian Block contestants instantly heard about and one that has given them nightmares ever since.

Her The Block bestie Sarah-Jane – half of House One team with her husband Tom – agrees. “When I heard about the New Zealand auctions and the very low to no cash made, I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach,” Sarah-Jane, 31, says.

“That would be heartbreaking.”But Rachel and the other contestants are trying to remain positive.”We just have to hope buyers see the dreams we’ve all created and want to make them their reality,” she says.

This comes as several houses on the NZ version of The Block failed to sell in the recent finale
