Their fights became legendary on The Block five years ago, and now it appears their tumultuous relationship is on the rocks with reports Dea and Darren Jolly have secretly split up in recent weeks.
When contacted earlier tonight, Darren, 37, angrily denied the speculation before hanging up, while Dea, 49, responded with a bizarre foul-mouthed rant over text when asked to comment on the rumoured split.
“Wrong number I would never get married. Go away!!!!!” was her initial response, closely followed by: “Learn to spell c–t. And f–k off.”
Former Collingwood AFL-player-turned-builder Darren simply said: “It’s not true.”
When they appeared on The Block: Glasshouse in 2015, Deanne famously let fly with the C-bomb, after her bathroom design was harshly criticised by judge Shaynna Blaze, who Dea said she “hated”.
“She’s a bogan from Wantirna who’s got no f–king idea and I will out-style you any day. She will want to keep away from me at the wrap party if she shows,” she said in one of the most controversial episodes of family show.
It didn’t help that the home they built on the show delivered them just $10,000 profit when it was sold. But the couple bounced back the following year, taking home a massive $935,000 when they appeared on The Block Triple Threat.
Dea and Darren divided fans because of their massive blow-ups on the much loved Nine reality show, which saw Dea labelled “Hurricane Dea”.
And even before they made their TV debut there were signs that their relationship was tumultuous with Darren admitting in his audition tape that “we do butt heads”.
He also said “she can be short … she can snap”, while Dea said “sometimes he’s a bit insensitive”.
In a trailer for series nine of The Block, Dea can be seen screaming: “I’m not the problem here!” and “Why would you do that without talking to me?”
The couple also weathered a storm of controversy after they demolished a house in Kew East in Melbourne without proper approvals, before going on to make millions flipping houses in Melbourne.
They also run a successful business called D + D Home, combining Darren’s skills as a builder and Dea’s skills as an interior designer, and share two children, Scarlett, 12, and Lilly, 10.
Dea is understood to be currently living in Dandelong, while Darren remains in Melbourne.
Certainly fans were given no hint of trouble in their marriage when they appeared as mentors on The Block last month in a segment which was filmed in June this year.
