Filming has begun and contestants have been selected – The Block is gearing up for a major comeback in 2023 following last year’s devastating auction night results.
Fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for their favourite renovation series to return for its nineteenth season. But its newest trailer has just teased a twist.
In screenshots shared by Nine, host Scotty Cam has a full head of hair and wearing a leather jacket as the trailer travels back in time to the 1950s.
The lucky – or unlucky – Blockheads will renovate “five incredible Aussie homes direct from the ’50s” to ultimately be crowded as the winners.
While we wait for The Block to hit our screens, we answer all your burning questions about the new season.
What is the twist on The Block 2023?
The 2023 couples have been given the full renovation schedule ahead of time. Something that – despite being longed for – has never been done before.
The teams will also have to build a secondary accommodation on their sites, which will add value to their homes. But it will also add more stress and drama… perfect!
Where will The Block be in 2023?
We previously reported that the hit renovation series would be ditching the countryside – most likely due to its unlucky outcome in 2022 – for the city.
Five classic homes in Melbourne’s Hampton East, located on Charming Street were purchased by Channel Nine.

Who are the judges on The Block 2023?
Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer will be returning as judges in 2023.
While alum Neale Whitaker has returned for this season, he won’t be appearing on-screen as much as usual. In a post shared to Instagram, Neale revealed he had prioritised family and his partner who has suffered with health issues recently.
In moments where Neale couldn’t judge, real estate tycoon Marty Fox stood in his place.
“I’m very proud to be completing my 17th season as a judge on The Block. It’s an amazing privilege to have been part of this iconic show for 13 years. For the 2023 season, however, I’ve put family first and cut back on my judging weeks,” Neale wrote.
“My partner of 20 years, David, experienced some serious health issues earlier this year and my priority has been to spend more time at home. But I’m happy to announce that real estate guru Marty Fox has been able to bring his expertise to The Block and join Shaynna and Darren on the weeks when I couldn’t be there.
“The best news of all is that David is making a great recovery, and I’m looking forward to returning to The Block full time for the show’s 20th anniversary season in 2024 🏠❤️.”
But The Block just isn’t The Block without Shelly Craft and Scotty Cam who will also be returning to co-host the series. However, there were media reports that Scotty wouldn’t be re-signing his contract following Season 19 which have since been denied by Nine.
“The report is not true,” Nine told news.com.au.
Who are The Block 2023 contestants?
The contestants competing this year are Eliza and Liberty; Gian and Steph; Kyle and Leslie; Leah and Ash; and Kirsty and Brett.

The Block 2023 Spoilers:
Marty Fox wasn’t the only one spotted on Charming Street, after a residents snapped a photo of Season 18 contestant Tom wearing a tradie uniform.
“Also got to see Tom…having photos being taken of him outside our place for promos,” the resident wrote on Facebook.
It has been presumed Tom could feature on the show due to the ‘hipages’ lever where teams can pull the lever for extra support.
Is The Block returning in 2023?
This was the question on every fan’s lips after The Block New Zealand was postponed until 2024 due to the difficult housing market.
But do not fear! This has not impacted the Aussie version, clearly…
