Osher Günsberg is keeping his voice just above a whisper. His three-year-old son, Wolfgang, who he lovingly calls Wolfie, is having a nap in the next room. Between wrapping filming for The Masked Singer and The Bachelor Australia, it’s been a busy period for the 48-year-old. Now, he’s relishing a day at home before another big night on stage.
“I’m grateful to be extraordinarily busy at the moment,” Osher shares. “It’s super-fun and I try really hard to be as good as I can every single time. I put a lot of pressure on myself to constantly improve.”
Whether it’s bringing excitement to The Masked Singer stage, or guiding a heartbroken participant on The Bachelor, the star knows that to be his best self, he needs to prioritise rest.
“It’s not just about making sure there’s enough energy, but also that there’s enough emotional investment to get up and go again,” he says. “To recharge that, you need to connect with family, and have time to connect with why you’re doing it all. I’m doing this because I love my wife and kids and love spending time with them.”
Thankfully, for The Bachelor, Osher and his wife Audrey, who works as a make-up artist on the show, were able to go to Queensland’s Gold Coast, where filming took place, as a family.
“We were there for 12 weeks,” he says. “Me and Wolfie would ride to the park and enjoy the sunshine, which was cool. And we found someone to look after him on the nights we were both working on set together.”
While he can’t reveal too much about the new and improved season set to air later this year, Osher is excited for Australia to see not one, but three Bachelors find a match.
“It’s going to blow people’s minds,” he enthuses. “There are enough elements that make you feel like you’re part of The Bachelor universe, but so much is completely different. It’s changed in a way that reflects what it is to be dating in Australia in 2022.”
Although he loves what he calls “shiny floor television”, his passion for personal growth and authenticity saw him launch a podcast, Better Than Yesterday, in 2013. It features in-depth conversations with people from all walks of life.

“My brother once asked, ‘When are you going to do a job that shows people how smart you are? You always do jobs where you shout and scream,'” Osher says. ”But really, that’s the job – it isn’t about having conversations about renewable energy, for example. It’s not the time to have that conversation. These things fascinate me, but they’re not the job.
“I love connecting with people. I’m really grateful to be able to have these kinds of conversations every week. I got my start in radio, and it’s the radio show I always wanted to do.”
Osher’s first major TV role was as the co-host of Australian Idol in 2003. With a reboot of the series scheduled for 2023, many wonder whether he’ll be signing on.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing it,” he says. “As far as hosting it goes, I’m nearly 50. Would I say yes if they asked me and it was on my network? Damn right I would. But it’s not, so I’ll have to release that dream off into the world.”
But he does have a recommendation as to who should take on the coveted role.
“If they don’t get Ash London [the radio broadcaster who co-hosted 10’s Game Of Games in 2018], they’re missing the boat,” he says.
“She has the broadcasting pedigree, a passion for music and she’s hilarious. She would be the best person to carry the torch.”
