Originally appearing on the series in 2017, the 30-year-old signed on for a second time in the hopes of winning the life-changing prize money for his family.

In a gut-wrenching story, Luke’s baby girl was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in March this year, just six weeks before he went in to the jungle.

She underwent surgery while he was away, making his time on the show even tougher, however, Luke’s mission was simple. Win the $500,000 for his family.

As the episode concluded, fans reacted to the blindside elimination, by creating not one, but an insane 31 GoFundMe pages to raise money for the young family.

On a GoFundMe page that has officially been endorsed by Luke himself, super fan Dave Skow wrote:

“Let’s be honest … Luke Toki is the best Australian Survivor contestant, ever.

“We first met the FIFO worker from Western Australia two years ago when he made a name for himself as the ‘King of the Jungle’ on the 2017 season of Survivor.

“Then this year saw his return as a Champion in the 2019 season. Leaving behind his young family, he had one aim — to take out the title of Sole Survivor and in turn, win $500k to provide a better life for them.”

“With two young sons with autism and a baby girl with cystic fibrosis, $500k would be a life changing amount for the Toki’s.

“Whilst Luke stumbled near the finish line and was voted out in the top 4, true Survivor fans will recognise that he is the greatest Australian player ever to grace our screens. So let’s rally behind this Aussie legend and change this awesome young family’s life.”

The page, at the time of publication, has already raised over $200,000 with 5.7k donations.

In an interview with TV WEEK, Luke revealed that winning the money “would secure the family’s future.”

Upon leaving camp, Luke was clearly emotional, revealing that after losing the challenge, he knew he was going home.

“By the time I was walking around to go see the gang in Jury Villa I felt like I’d been crying for about two hours. I was like, the moment JLP put my flame out and I walked down that path I was an absolute emotional wreck. I was so sad, to just fall short like that, just because I didn’t have the necklace. You know it was just such an overwhelming amount of emotion that hit me at once. I’m a bit of a stone cold killer sometimes, but that moment was just a lot.”

While he didn’t win the prize money, his legions of fans are doing nothing but supporting him, coining him the “people’s champ”.
