The Block contestants Ronny and Georgia have posted a heartfelt tribute to the teams of this year’s season of the hit renovation show, following a record making and heartbreaking auction result for all bar two teams.

The couple’s luxury four-bedroom home was the first to go under the hammer on auction day in 2021, much like our 2022 winners Omar and Oz. However, unlike this year’s winning pair who have taken home over $1.6m, Ronny and Georgia saw a profit of only $296,000, placing last in their season.

While their total profit may seem steep in comparison to auction results from this year’s season of The Block: Tree Change, the couples result paled in comparison to fellow contestants at the time, with winners Mitch and Mark walking away with $644,444.44 in profits.

Knowing the heartbreak only too well, our former blockheads posted to their joint Instagram account this week, writing, ”So devastated for this year’s The Block contestants. The emotional and physical effort it takes to complete The Block is such a unique experience, one you can truly only comprehend by having done it yourself.”

The message went on to say that Channel 9 should implement a means of financial reward for all contestants on the show, to make up for their time, effort and of course lost income from their day jobs that they left to compete on the show.

”[The Block is] an experience that in our opinion certainly deserves remuneration.”

In this year’s auction both Sharon and Ankur and Dylan and Jenny made the tough decision to pass their houses in, in an attempt to avoid the measly $20,000 auction result that Tom and Sarah-Jane saw.

”For those properties passed in, wishing you much success with future negotiations,” the post continued.

And despite the controversy surrounding the history-making win of Omar and Oz and rumours of a ‘dummy bidder’, Ronnie and Georgia made a point to celebrate this year’s winners, even if they had left their fellow competitors in the dust.

”Congrats to the boys, that’s some life changing winnings right there”.

Followers were quick to congratulate the pair on their kind words of support, sharing their feelings of devastation.

”Was devastated for you two last year and am now devastated for Tom and Sarah,” wrote one user.

”Why is it that the best workers with great work ethics and amazing finishes and excellent choices end up worse off,” wrote another.

And in a comment that surely resonates with many The Block fans, another Instagram user wrote, ”As a consumer, it feels absolutely horrible to watch! Why are we subjecting ourselves to this kind of heartbreak? It makes me want to switch it off. We want people to succeed. Hard workers should be rewarded. Something needs to change.”

There is no word yet if Channel 9 will adjust the auction format for future seasons or provide additional financial compensation for the couples who have walked away with minimal earnings.
