New housewife Cherry Dipietrantonio was hoping her Hollywood-themed 40th birthday party would be a fun, glamorous and, most importantly, a drama-free event. But, true to The Real Housewives Of Melbourne, she didn’t get her wish.
“The drama seems to follow us everywhere we go,” Cherry, 40, tells TV WEEK. “It was an event I expected to be free from conflict, but I clearly got that one wrong.”
A disagreement boils over when Kyla accuses Janet of rummaging through fellow housewife Anjali’s apartment. In the wake of the clash, Janet refused to attend Cherry’s big bash.
Despite the tension, Cherry was hoping the ladies would get dolled up and set aside their differences to celebrate her milestone. But Janet’s absence became a big talking point.
“I felt really disappointed,” Cherry says. “I’m not one to hold a grudge. I had high hopes for Kyla and Janet – it’s not healthy to carry so much animosity towards anyone.
“I reached out to Janet to encourage her to attend, as I do feel all issues can be resolved if you’re willing to see things from another perspective – or, at the very least, to just let things go and move on.”
As a new member of the cast, Cherry was nervous about the whole process, especially watching herself on television.
“So far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised that I’m at ease with that part of the process,” she says. “But don’t forget: we’re not at the finish line just yet – I may change my mind. Ha!”
Surrounded by some of the most outspoken women in Melbourne, Cherry wants Australia to know she’s capable of holding her own.
“I hope the audience sees that even though I’m not the loudest in the group, I’m quietly confident in who I am,” she says. “I don’t pretend to be someone else or play up to the camera, creating issues that aren’t there. I’m quite content just being me, flaws and all.”
