5 minutes with Peter Phelps! Peter, 62, is a veteran actor – and director.
This isn’t your first time on Home And Away. How does it feel to be back on set as a different character altogether?
I’ve directed a multitude of H&A episodes and loved returning to a crew and cast, some of whom I’ve worked with over my 42 years [in TV]. The vibrancy of the younger actors is inspiring. And the older actors make me feel I can keep going until I drop.

Would you consider a reboot?
Stingers is my favourite Aussie TV show, so it would be a great reboot. As the old veteran, I could lead the youngies.
Meanwhile in Home and Away, Peter’s character, Gary is already causing a stir, while some characters are happy to see him, others aren’t quite as welcoming.
Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) isn’t that appreciative of Cash’s (Nicholas Cartwright) thoughtful efforts whenshe discovers Gary (Peter Phelps) is in town. While Cash is overjoyed to see him, Flick feels differently.
“They have a rocky history,” Jacqui tells TV WEEK. “She feels ambushed by him and Cash. She’d hoped Cash would support her decision to not see him, but instead, he forces her to face him. This drives a wedge between her and Cash.”

Hoping that the pair might make peace, Cash encourages his sister to put the past behind them. But when Flick and Gary come face-to-face, she makes it clear she’s not interested in reconciling.
Thankfully, an understanding Gary can see through her facade, pulling her into a warm embrace.
Stay tuned on Home and Away to follow Peter’s character, Gary.
