According to a network insider, controversial chef Pete Evans, 47, is “days away” from being signed on, in an attempt to “shake up” the show.

“They’re desperate for him to sign on the dotted line,” says the source.

“He’s the perfect person to create a bit of a buzz, and despite how quirky his beliefs may be, he does have supporters,” continues the insider, who says Ten is chasing celebrities with more “intrigue factor”.

It was recently announced the show would be relocating from South Africa to a campsite in Murwillumbah, NSW, which is close to Byron Bay, where the former MKR judge is based.

“It’s a no brainer for Pete – he’s not exactly being thrown a stack of work at the moment,” the source adds.

“He’s the perfect person to create a bit of a buzz, and despite how quirky his beliefs may be, he does have supporters,” our source says.

Since finding fame as a judge on My Kitchen Rules, “Paleo Pete” has landed in the headlines time and time again for his polarising and often dangerous views on everything from suncream, fluoride, calcium and outlandish claims as to why pregnant women shouldn’t drink tap water.

Most recently the father-of-two, who wed second wife and model Nicola Robinson in 2016, was fined by the The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) after he falsely claimed a machine called a BioCharger could be used to help fight coronavirus.

I’m A Celeb is set to return to our airwaves on January 3 and will be filmed in Australia.
