When it comes to culinary royalty, Nigella Lawson takes the crown.
So it’s only fitting that the 58-year-old has been invited to take part in MasterChef Australia’s 10-year celebratory season.
And while the cooking queen is thrilled to be involved in the cooking competition, she admits reality TV isn’t really her cup of tea.
“I would never have wanted to be a contestant [on MasterChef Australia],” Nigella explains to TV WEEK. “I’m just not that kind of person.”
Despite this, the British television personality and food writer says she always loves working alongside judges George Calombaris, Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan.
“I find it a real honour – and they’re a real hoot altogether,” Nigella says of the trio.
“They can start behaving like naughty schoolboys, but it’s like being surrounded by lovely brothers.”
However, just like real-life siblings, Nigella reveals she butts heads with them at times.
“I’ve had a disagreement about one particular dish with all three of them,” Nigella admits.
As for this year’s batch of MasterChef Australia contestants, Nigella says she’s been pleasantly surprised by their skills.
“They’re the most talented yet,” she enthuses. “I couldn’t believe how wonderful the food was so early in the competition.”
She’s not the only one impressed by the competition, with former contestant Hayden Quinn telling TV WEEK he doesn’t think he’d make it through the rounds now.
“These day you look at the calibre of people on the show, it’s amazing,” he says.
“If I went on this year, I wouldn’t even make it through the first selection process. It’s incredible.”
MasterChef Australia airs Monday to Thursday, and Sunday, 7:30pm on Network TEN.
