In late February 2023, My Kitchen Rules couple Carly Saunders and Tresne Middleton lost their 20 month old girl, Poppy to leukaemia. Now, the couple mourn their first Mother’s Day without her.
Just after Mother’s Day, the pair shared a video featuring a collection of moments with their late daughter and confessed it was a difficult time.
“Hi beautiful friends and fam,” they began on their joint Instagram account.
“We just wanted to thank your kind hearts for reaching out with messages of love and support on Mothers Day. Sunday hit us hard. It took a toll, but we’re okay, just stacking up our resilience. We miss our baby girl, so much. It feels like a bad dream, it still doesn’t feel real.
“We know now that we need to plan to be surrounded by our people on significant days like this. We just didn’t want to taint anyone’s Mothers Day by getting our sad all over them.”
On the day of what was supposed to be a special occasion, Carly and Tresne did their best to keep their mind and body busy by relentlessly cooking for hours and looking back at “treasured time with Poppy Grace.”
“And we reopened presents that our precious baby cousins brought over on Friday afternoon. They made us handmade pajamas and cards! Clever cookies! Thank you Grahams- we love you all, you are so thoughtful,” they wrote.
“We hope all of you are okay. We know Mothers Day is a tough day for a lot of people for various reasons. We see you, we feel you and we are sending you hugs and big kisses. All our love and wholehearted gratitude always.
“xoxoxo Carly and Tresne xoxoxo”.
Carly and Tresne – who featured on MKR in 2014 – have been very open regarding their healing journey.
Since her passing on February 16, the couple have left for retreats, visiting group therapy and encouraging people to donate blood or money to the Poppy Grace Lifeblood team.
