Monday night’s episode of My Kitchen Rules saw the first elimination round of this year’s competition, culminating in Sunshine Coast couple Ash and Matty being sent home.
They faced off in a sudden death cook off in the new ‘Elimination House’ against Perth waitresses Stella and Jazzey.
Judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel sat with a whole new batch of contestants (Group 2), while the bottom two teams had chef Colin Fassnidge cracking the whip in the kitchen.
We all knew Matty was going to struggle in this challenge – he’s been vocal in admitting he can’t cook. (He’d never tried salmon before the competition!)
Matty gave it his best shot, however, and he and Ash cooked up corn fritters, avocado and salsa; falafels; and a Frangipani pie for dessert.
Manu wasn’t a fan of the falafels and said: “The falafels weren’t cripsy on the outside, and the inside was very mushy and pasty,” before giving the dish a 2 out of 10. Their total score was 67 out of 140 – ouch!
Jazzey and Stella knocked Matty and Ash out of the park with their seafood menu. They whipped up a prawn entree, salmon main, and buttermilk jelly for dessert, scoring them 103 out of 140.
“It’s been a helluva ride; [Matty was] a perfect choice of partner even though he can’t cook,” Ash said.
“I still wouldn’t choose anyone else. I could have but that wouldn’t have been fun. It’s the most amazing experience we could ever have asked for.”
