With more than 400 cravats in his wardrobe, it’s safe to say MasterChef Australia judge Matt Preston has a taste for fashion as well as fine dining.

But what do his three children, Jonathan, William and Sadie, think of his unique sense of style?

“They think it’s ridiculous,” the star, 57, tells TV WEEK. “Although, I did go through a couple of old boxes of old clothes recently and my eldest [Jonathan] pulled out a vintage soccer jersey he wanted to wear. He’s also got a moleskin shirt I used to wear when I first came to Australia.”

While Matt reveals he’d never consider fashion as a career – “I can’t draw!” he laughs – he says he’s loved experimenting with his wardrobe for as long as he can remember.

“My mate and I would go to op-shops in London when we were 17,” he explains. “He’d look around and come out with nothing, and I’d come out with bundles and say, ‘This is going to be brilliant! Look at this floral shirt!'”

Matt admits his children have developed their own sense of style, but it’s his daughter Sadie who has an eye for design.

“She’s got a good eye for colour,” he says. “She just knows what goes together. If anything, I’ve picked it up from her. She’ll tell me if I’m wearing the wrong pocket square, and she’s very good at making sure my cravat is spread out properly.”
