After two years together, Justin was planning to propose to his girlfriend, Esther. But when he found out he’d been accepted on MasterChef, the youth pastor almost didn’t go through with it.
“I got an apron and I was like, ‘I don’t think I’ll do it,'” Justin, 27, reveals to TV WEEK.
“But then I got back during the Christmas break and thought, heck, why not?”
After an elaborate day out that saw the couple relive dates and cherished memories, Justin got down on one knee in front of their family and friends.
“I promise I’m not crazy but after two weeks of knowing Esther, I just knew I was going to marry her,” he gushes.
While Justin is still away battling it out in the MasterChef kitchen, Esther is already hard at work planning the wedding for a few weeks after the show wraps up.
“The vibe is just something fun! We’re going to have the wedding by the water, outdoors, have a killer dance floor, good food and just all our friends and family,” the groom-to-be says.
Despite cooking fancy dishes on the show, Justin says he’s keen to keep the menu simple, telling the story of their relationship through food.
“I don’t care about having good food. It just has to mean something to us,” he says.
With his mum’s chicken curry and roti, and Esther’s cousins cooking Filipino pork belly, their guests will be in for a treat. And after making lifelong friends on the show, Justin is excited to invite his best friends on the show: Brent, Amir and Pete.
“They’re all invited, locked in with their wives and partners,” he says.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
