Married At First Sight fans found themselves shedding tears of happiness after watching Amanda and Tash’s wedding – the first on the show since same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia.
But in every fairytale, there are always villains, and on Tuesday night’s episode, Tash’s protective bridesmaids Ashlee and Rachel were cast in those roles.
And it turns out one of the bridesmaids has a not-so hidden talent.
While both bridesmaids’ Instagram profiles are set to private (most likely because of the backlash they faced during the wedding episode), bridesmaid Ashlee Karlar has a creative side hustle.
As a queer and feminist spoken word poet, Ashlee has her own professional social media following and frequently shares her prose on her Facebook and Instagram pages. And it’s not the sort of thing you’d want to read out to your grandma over tea.
“Whores can be princesses too, can’t they? I mean, we all still dream of castles,” she writes in one poem.

(Image: Facebook)Ashlee and Rachel raised eyebrows during Tuesday night’s wedding episode, and to say they were protective of their friend Tash is a bit of an understatement.
The bridesmaids believed Tash’s new bride Amanda had snubbed them and spoken only to Tash’s family and were compared to Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters and “vagina blockers.”
“I am finding this episode triggering. I have experienced so called ‘friends’ who have twisted and changed responses to suit them and as a result has changed meaning. Your friends are trash Tash,” one fan penned on Twitter.
“The bridesmaids from hell creating drama. As grown ass friends, you need to move to the side and let your friend navigate her own relationship,” wrote another.
But despite the drama, the wedding was an exciting day, with both Amanda and Tash admitting that the day was full of significance for them both.
“I’ve had a lot of people reach out and be really excited and really hopeful,” Tash told TV WEEK.
Meanwhile Amanda remarked, “I had to really pinch myself the week I found out because it was all so surreal.”
“I’m like, ‘Whether this works out or not, we’re going down in history.’ I really wanted to do the country proud.”

That said, bride Tash did admit to feeling pressure on the big day.
“It definitely added pressure because regardless of the fact that it’s a same-sex pairing and so if there was incompatibility it’s just between two people, there’s that added pressure, because they’ve chosen to do this as a way to represent the lesbian community.”
“Whether this works out or not, we’re going down in history.”
