He’s the tall, sporty and handsome groom on Married At First Sight this season. But as a child, Patrick says he struggled with his weight.

“I was chubby until I was about 15,” the 35-year-old reveals.

“I was eating about twice the amount of food my dad was at the age of nine – I was hungry all the time.”

For Patrick, being the “chubby” kid at school was never easy.

“I remember being 80 kilos in grade five and about 112 kilos in year nine,” he says. “That’s big for a little kid.”

A young Patrick struggled with his weight.

Patrick says it wasn’t until he discovered his love of sports that he was able to shed the bulk.

“I was good at basketball,” he shares. “I developed an obsession for it and haven’t stopped playing since.

“It taught me how to work within a team, how to excel within myself, and it made me skinny as well. I’m so thankful for it.”

Patrick says it was his love of sports that helped get him back into shape.

But Patrick isn’t the only MAFS contestant to have struggled with their weight.

Earlier this year, Sydney stunner Alycia Galbraith revealed her incredible 42-kilogram weight loss.

Opening up in a heartfelt post on social media, the 29-year-old said she hoped her story would help others.

“Literally the only reason I said yes to sharing my story in the end is because I was promised that it would help people & I really hope it can,” she wrote.

“Over time I’ve managed to lose more than 30kgs & now feel the best I ever have.”

As for other MAFS transformations, Tracey Jewel has held nothing back when it comes to detailing her plastic surgery journey, and Mat Lockett says he’s dropped six kilos as a result of the show.
