Seven months after getting hitched in an extremely private ceremony at their home on the NSW Central Coast, Sophie Monk, 42, and Joshua Gross, 43, embarked on their first international trip as a married couple.
Opening up her travel album exclusively with Woman’s Day, Sophie tells all about their romantic holiday to Spain.
“So Love Island is shooting in Spain again – and you thought you’d mix a bit of business with pleasure and take Josh along with you! Well yeah, I guess I had two days off a week, so you try and see as much as you can,” Sophie revealed.
“Josh and I made sure we booked a different hotel in different areas to go and just really check it out.
“Because I was single for the first year that we shot Love Island in Spain, and when you’re by yourself you’re not going to go out and see as much as you would – and so now I’ve got a husband we thought we’d make the most of it.”
What did you get up to while you were there?
“We went to the beach, went to a lot of different restaurants, shopping, and then more food, then shopping again, and we just really tried to make the most out of each day.”
Did this trip serve as your honeymoon?
“No, no – we’re definitely going to have a honeymoon I think, because we love travelling. We’ve just got to pick somewhere to go!”
Did you make sure you had some romantic date nights planned though?
“We stayed at this beautiful place, and we’d actually just found it by accident, and it used to be a convent, but they turned it into a hotel. And there was a view of a castle – and it was just gorgeous.”
What’s it like travelling with Josh?
“It’s awesome,” she said.
“Because he drives on the right side of the road. He’s very coordinated and I’m so terrible with Google Maps. Every time I’d be like, ‘OK, it’s about 800 metres away’ and then I’d tell a really good story and I’d forget where we were going.
“That’s the only time we argue really, about Google.”
Did you find out anything about him that you perhaps didn’t know?
“It was definitely the longest we’ve travelled together, but we’re both quite antisocial anyway, so we pretty much just always hang with each other, we’re never apart.”
You met Josh on a long-haul flight anyway, so you already know what he’s like on a plane! What are you like on a long-haul flight?
“I’m a sleeper. They say you’re intelligent if you don’t need much sleep, but I need a lot. Like I can sleep for 12 hours. Easy.”
There are a lot of selfies in your travel album – what does Josh think of selfies?
“He does not like it out. So I’ve got this new thing where we do videos because he won’t pose for a photo. So now, I’ll just film us as a video and I’ll screenshot it and that’s how we get our photos.”
