He’s settled well into his role as a judge on House Rules – but Jamie Durie still can’t believe he’s on TV in the first place.
The star, whose on-screen credentials also include The Block, Backyard Blitz and The Outdoor Room, says he fell into the industry “by accident” in the late ’90s.
“I never planned to be on TV at all,” Jamie, 48, tells TV WEEK. “It was by accident, to be honest. I think my previous background in performance – I spent 10 years on stage and also did some acting work – gave me that ability to perform in front of a crowd.”
With such an impressive résumé, will Jamie host his own show again here in Australia we ask?
“I don’t think you can plan for television,” he says. “These days, you’re just grateful for what comes your way.
“I’m happy where I am at the moment and, to be honest, my diary is pretty full. But I’m certainly open to opportunities.”
There’s one thing Jamie is sure about – the fact he’s here to stay. He’s signed a long-term contract with House Rules and, after spending the past 12 years travelling between LA and Sydney, he says it’s time to settle in one place.
“I pretty much spend most of my time here now, and this has well and truly cemented me here in Australia,” he says.
House Rules airs Monday to Wednesday, 7.30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, on Channel Seven.
