The glittery dance floor of Dancing With The Stars is a world away from Michelle Bridges’ regular routine of the gym!
The 48-year-old mum-of-one has taken the cha-cha in her stride, and has begun to wow audiences with her “stamina” and ability to dance.
While we all know that staying fit and healthy plays a large role in her life, her regular work-outs have been forgotten for now and even Michelle couldn’t have predicted what dancing would do for her body.
Now, the mother of three-year-old Axel, whom she shares with her partner Steve “Commando” Willis, speaks to NW about dancing, weight-loss and the hard-core training regime with her dance partner!
What’s your Dancing With The Stars training schedule like?
I’m loving every second of it, but I’m so sore! We’re training six to seven hours a day. We have a break with lunch, and stop and start, but go from 8 in the morning to 4 or 5 at night. Then I’ve got to get home and bathe and feed [my three-year-old son Axel].
You’re already super fit, but how has your body changed?
You think you wouldn’t get sore from this, but it’s very different muscles. You’re spent after a minute-and-a-half [routine]! I definitely feel like my posture has improved, and I’ve lost about a kilo.
Have you changed up your normal workouts?
I’m not training – I miss my weights and I’m probably going to lose muscle because of it. I’m eating about the same, but I’m more tired. Come the end of the day, I’m looking at my bed with lustful eyes!
You’ve done everything from bodybuilding to fitness classes – how does dancing compare?
It’s probably one of the best ways to get a workout. Not only do you get results, you’re using your brain to remember the choreography and the positioning. It’s also a great way to switch your head off.
Has your partner Steve noticed any changes to your body?
He said I look a bit leaner! Steve’s been amazing. I come home and he’s got dinner organised – he’s even given me a couple of foot massages!
Dancing With The Stars is on 7.30pm Mondays, live on Channel 10.
