Fresh from his split from Bachelorette girlfriend Angie Kent, Carlin Sterritt has revealed his reality TV dating experience could have taken a VERY different path.

Chatting to Big Brother star Sophie Budack on her YouTube show, Beyond The White Room, Carlin admitted he was initially in the process of becoming the actual Bachelor, rather than a contestant.

When Warner Bros. began their search for the 2019 Bachelor, who eventually ended up being Matt Agnew, Carlinโ€™s boss nominated him for the role.

โ€œHe did it behind my back. I didnโ€™t ask him to do it,โ€ Carlin explained.

What could have been!

He then added: โ€œI got an audition for The Bachelor and from that process โ€“ and I didnโ€™t get The Bachelor โ€“ but I met with a lot of the casting directors and producers. They sort of got to know who I was.โ€

โ€œSo when The Bachelorette came to be, they pretty much gave me a call and said โ€˜Hey, did you want to just apply for this?โ€™ and I said, โ€˜Sure!'โ€

While the application process can be quite rigorous, the 32-year-old explained that after one group interview, he was โ€œfast tracked from thereโ€ to end up on Angieโ€™s season.

Carlin won Angieโ€™s heart.

During his time on the show, Carlin didnโ€™t mention he had originally applied to be The Bachelor.

Other stars on his season, however, had been outed for applying to previous seasons of the show, like Jackson Garlick on Georgia Loveโ€™s season and Ryan Anderson on Ali Oetjenโ€™s season.

While it all worked out for Carlin, who was the last man standing with the final rose lapel on his jacket, unfortunately the relationship recently came to an end.

The couple confirmed their split in July.

The couple confirmed their split on July 1, with Angie taking to Instagram to address the growing rumours.

โ€œHi everyone, thereโ€™s been a lot of speculation and rumours about the state of my relationship with Carlin. We have not wanted to confirm up until this point because there have been much bigger issues going on in the world and weโ€™ve both been taking space to think about what we really want,โ€ Angie wrote.

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O on the KIIS FM radio show this week, Angie addressed the break up again.

โ€œChemistry doesnโ€™t always equal compatibility and we were smitten with each other on the show,โ€ she said.

โ€œIโ€™m more spiritual and a little bit more carefree and wild whereas heโ€™s moreโ€ฆ.,โ€ Angie added before Jackie said that Carlin was โ€œa Christian boy.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s a Christian boy and weโ€™re just different,โ€ Angie concluded.

Channel 10 has been contacted for comment.
