When frontrunner Brooke Blurton walked out on Honey Badger Nick Cummins in Season Five of The Bachelor Australia, fans were convinced she’d be the next star of The Bachelorette Australia.

The Perth-based social worker – who has admitted to being interested in both men and women – won over the nation with her strength, vulnerability and charm. And fans were desperate to see the 24-year-old find love on her own season.

However, in an exclusive interview with TV WEEK, Brooke reveals it was never a consideration – and she has Nick, who ultimately chose no-one and left his season single, to thank.

“I guess because I saw how Nick was being The Bachelor, I was probably was discouraged about doing The Bachelorette thing,” she admits, adding that she was asked about doing the show frequently following her shock exit last year.

“I always got asked whether or not being the Bachelorette was a consideration, but not at the time,” she tells TV WEEK. “I’d just come out of The Bachelor, so I felt a bit fresh.”

Brooke says she felt a bit “fresh” after her shock-exit from The Bachelor Australia.

However things changed when she was offered a place on Bachelor In Paradise Australia.

“I was kind of feeling like I was going into my little shell, so I thought I’ll throw myself into the deep end and give it a little crack,” she admits.

“The thing is, on The Bachelor I’d opened myself up and spoken about things really close to my heart. I was vulnerable, and because it wasn’t reciprocated, I felt exposed,” says Brooke, who on the show shared her story of being raised in foster care after the heartbreaking passing of her mother and grandmother.

“I guess I was just hoping in Paradise that maybe if I can open up again and get to know someone, then maybe I’ll find someone that will reciprocate that in that way. I’ll try my luck and I can’t go wrong.”

“I’ll try my luck and I can’t go wrong,” Brooke says of her next adventure in Paradise.

Now, as Brooke gives dating in front of the cameras another shot, there’s just one person she doesn’t want to see – her Bachelor ex Nick.

“I probably was feeling a little bit nervous that I didn’t know who was going to be in Paradise – I didn’t know if he was going to be there,” she says. “I assumed that maybe he wouldn’t because if he was I’d be like, ‘Mate what are you doing?’ So out of all people to be there… he probably was not the person I’d be most happy to see.”
