When Jamie-Lee Dayz heard that Brooke Blurton was going to be the Bachelorette on this season of The Bachelorette Australia, she felt it was destiny.
The pair had formed a tight friendship when they both appeared on Nick “The Honey Badger” Cummins’ season of The Bachelor Australia in 2018.
And though psychology student Jamie-Lee had quietly wondered whether her connection with youth worker Brooke might turn into something more, it wasn’t the right time to make a move.
“There was no doubt in my mind that Nick was going to choose Brooke,” Jamie-Lee, 30, tells TV WEEK. [As it turned out, the former Wallaby rugby star sparked controversy by not choosing any of the bachelorettes.]
“Despite the rumours, nothing romantic ever happened between us in the mansion – we were just close friends – but a part of me wondered if there could have been something romantic if circumstances were different.”
For Jamie-Lee, the 2021 season of The Bachelorette felt the right time to find out whether they really did have a romantic connection.
“I believe things happen for a reason,” she says. “Brooke and I have a lot in common and there was always an unspoken bond between us.”
While Jamie-Lee admits she was nervous in the limousine en route to the mansion, the moment she saw Brooke, she knew she’d made the right decision.
“I distinctly remember a rush of emotion,” she says. “I was excited to hug her and talk to her.”
As the pair sat down to reconnect during the cocktail party, Jamie-Lee was relieved when Brooke leant in for a kiss. Could this be the beginning of a beautiful love story?
