It’s less than 48 hours before The Bachelorette 2021 premieres and leading lady Brooke Blurton admits being in the top role really changed her perspective on the franchise.
After debuting on Nick Cummins’ season of The Bachelor in 2018, then returning for a stint on Bachelor in Paradise season two, Brooke is all too familiar with how the shows work.
But this is her first time as the Bachelorette and she tells TV WEEK that being in that position really opened her eyes to just “how much say” the person in the leading role has.
“I think you’ll always learn something about yourself in this experience and my perspective this time around was to lean into it,” she says.
Adding that her most recent experience with the franchise gave her a whole new appreciation for “how great the crew are”, it’s clear Brooke had a good experience with the production team.
“Everyone is super supportive and wants to see this work out,” she says of the crew.
“They put their heart and soul into it, and you’ve got to give them credit for it.”
As much as the people behind the scenes deserve their moment in the spotlight, it’s the people Brooke will be sharing the screen with that fans are most excited about.
Brooke is making history as the first Indigenous and openly bisexual Bachelorette and has previously opened up to TV WEEK about how nerve-wracking that was.
“I hope I do the LGBTQIA+ and bisexual representation justice,” she reiterates, and she’s not the only one hoping to get things right.
With eight men and eight women entering the Bachelorette mansion in Wednesday night’s premiere episode, it will be the first time a Bachelor or Bachelorette has dated contestants of both genders on the show.
When asked if any of the men or women stood out to her right away, Brooke turns coy.
“I think everyone was different, individual and had unique personalities,” she says.
This year’s cast even included an old flame for Brooke in the form of Jamie-Lee Dayz, who also starred on Nick Cummins’ season of The Bachelor.
She and Brooke developed a close bond in the mansion three years ago and there were plenty of rumours that their feelings went beyond friendship.
Jamie-Lee even confessed to holding a flame for Brooke in teaser clips from this season of The Bachelorette.
But Brooke isn’t giving anything away ahead of the season’s premiere tomorrow.
When asked for any details about the bonds she formed with certain contestants, Brooke will only say: “I formed great connections with everyone.
“Those who didn’t make it to the finale obviously just weren’t my ‘person’.”
The 26-year-old has already revealed that she did in fact find love on the show, making it third time lucky for her.
Though she won’t reveal any details – not even her new love’s gender, or if it’s been hard keeping their romance a secret – we can’t wait to see who Brooke ends up with.
In fact, she may even make Bachelor history one more time if she chooses a woman in the finale!
It would make her the first Bachelor or Bachelorette to ever end the series in a same-sex relationship, but we’ll be happy so long as Brooke ends up with the right person – man or woman – for her.
Tune in to the premiere of The Bachelorette 2021 at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 20 on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
