When Robert Colangelo was sent packing by Ali Oetjen on Wednesday’s Bachelorette, fans of the show were understandably shocked by the outcome.
The plumber from VIC was a clear front-runner, particularly when Ali snuck away to give him a passionate kiss during a cocktail party in the very first week of the season.
But according to Rob, it was the cocktail parties that we didn’t see, that everything went south and of course, that conversation he had with Ali’s friends.
In a chat with Now to Love, Rob divulged what really led to the breakdown of his relationship with Ali and why it was a good thing he was sent home.
During Wednesday’s episode, Rob asked to see Ali before the group date and the pair discussed their future.
While they seemingly patched up whatever doubts they had between them, in the end Ali was unconvinced and he was sent packing.
“It was definitely an emotional goodbye,” Rob explained to Now To Love.
“It was hard to say goodbye because I did care for her so much and I did see a future with her, but at the same time, I had had enough and I was ready to leave.
“At that point there was no salvaging what we once had and I didn’t know if we could get it back to that point again.”
During the cocktail parties, Ali would pull Rob aside and “question” his intentions towards her.
“She said to me, ‘there was always a ‘but” with me,” he revealed. “She asked me pretty early on what kind of woman do I see myself settling down with, what kind of woman am I attracted to.
“I think when I told her about how I felt, she didn’t think she fit the mould and thought I was talking about someone else – when actually, I was talking about her.”

Before all of this occurred, Rob was subject to a very brutal grilling by Ali’s friends Bianca and Jess, and was the only Bachelor who turned the tables on them.
Because of this “intense” exchange, Rob was seen as a little aggressive – but according to the 30-year-old, it was all just nerves.
“I definitely stick by my convictions,” Rob said of the conversation. “I think my questions were valid. I was quite nervous having met them.
“It’s hard to have an emotionally confronting conversation like that, especially about the woman you’re trying to fall in love with and to people you’ve never met before. A lot of it was nervous chatter which could be mistaken for aggression but I was really trying to get a point out that I was trying to make sure that this girl, that I can potentially see a future with, I can actually see a future with.”

Now that Ali is out of the picture, Rob is still single and looking for love.
“I’m looking for my forever love,” he said. “I don’t want to just date anybody. I’m 30 years-old-old and I’m just ready to settle down.”
