They make unlikely allies, but in Neighbours this week, Paul and Mackenzie agree to work together to try to get to the bottom of exactly what newcomers Tess and Heath are up to Erinsborough.

The arrival of Tess Carmichael (Anica Calida), second-in-command to Lassiters Hotel co-owner Conrad Sinclair, has seen tensions mount. Tess isn’t alone – her handsome and charming offsider Heath Royce (Ethan Panizza) is with her, making businessman Paul (Stefan Dennis) suspicious of why they’rein town and what their intentions regarding his beloved hotel may be.

“Paul’s not sure why they’re here,” Stefan, 65, tells TV WEEK. “But instinct tells him they’re up to no good. He’s happy to string them along until he can get to the bottom of it.”

Lassiters staffer Holly (Lucinda Armstrong Hall) has been smitten with the hunky Heath since he’s been in town. But Heath is also seeing Tess, and although Holly thought she could handle having a casual relationship, when she catches Heath and Tess after they’ve slept together, she’s jealous.

Concerned about her best friend’s well-being, and just as suspicious of Heath and Tess, Mackenzie (Georgie Stone) has no qualms when Paul approaches her with an offer to track their movements in the hopes of learning their true motives.

“Mack is all too happy to keep tabs on them, as she hopes to save Holly from herself,” Stefan, 65, says. “Paul trusts Mackenzie – there are no hidden agendas or self-interest at play. She’s a loyal friend of Holly, with a wise head on her shoulders.”

Are Tess and Heath innocently just checking in on Lassiters – or is Paul’s gut instinct right as he and Mackenzie work together to find out if the visitors are part of a plot to take over what he believes is rightfully his? And if they’re right, where will that leave poor Holly?
