Picking up 15 years after the final episode of Teen Wolf, Teen Wolf: The Movie reunites werewolf Scott with his supernatural high school friends, who are all now in their thirties.

Although they’ve moved on (or at least, they’re trying to) from the horrors that shook the town of Beacon Hills, a mysterious force brings them back together.

”I’m excited for people to see where Scott is,” Tyler Posey, 31, who plays Scott in the series and film, shares with TV WEEK.

”He’s taken a step back from a leadership role. He’s missing a lot of different aspects in his life and he doesn’t understand why, or know how to get them back.”

Now in their 30s, Tyler and Shelley were teens in the original Teen Wolf.

Werewolf Scott and his friends – banshee Lydia (Holland Roden), werecoyote Malia (Shelley Hennig), werewolf Derek (Tyler Hoechlin), and other key characters from the show – work together to figure out what, or who, is behind some unsettling signs and visions.

But in doing so, they create an opportunity for evil to be let loose in their town once again.

”Season three [in 2012] was people’s favourite, and that’s kind of the season we called on for this movie,” Tyler explains.

”The villain from that season is back. People are going to love it, but hate it too, because he [the villain] is so bad. But it’ll feel familiar, which is nice because a lot of the rest of the story is very new for Teen Wolf.”

Speaking about revisiting her role as Malia, Shelley, 36, says returning to the set felt totally normal – except that she’s not as fighting fit as she once was.

”It was as if time hasn’t passed – but it has, because Tyler and I can’t run in the same shoes we used to,” she says with a laugh.

”Now, you’ve got to wear insoles, you have to ice your knees, and you have to stretch. The whole geriatric wolf part of it was new for us!”

Holland, 36, adds, ”It has been 15 years and we’re jumping into adulthood. The evolution from high school to mid-thirties is quite different, so we’ll see how fans accept that. Jeff [Davis, who developed the series and wrote the film] does a great job answering questions about certain relationships.”

The new film is ”pretty blatant” in its call-backs to the series, Tyler explains, so there’s no need for fans of the original to scour the movie for clues or hidden references. But it’s something he’d suggest if there were to be more films or series.

Malia has often struggled with her werecoyote side.

”It’s an entire season of Teen Wolf crammed into two-and-a-half hours,” he says.

”But there aren’t too many hidden secrets, which I wish there were more of.”

It begs the question: will there be another series or film?

”I’m ready,” Tyler declares.

”I love Teen Wolf. One thing that’s been really good about it over the years is that it’s helped elevate our careers: I started producing on Teen Wolf, I’ve directed an episode, I’ve written for Teen Wolf. I want more of that.

”I love the story so much and want to be involved – in any capacity.”
